Tanchangya |
The Tanchangya lives in the
Rangamati district of Chittagong Hill Tract and the districts of Bandarban and
Khagrachari and Boishabili region of Rangunia upazila of Chittagong district. The Tanchagyas are the
descendants of hybrid generation that came about through the miscegenation
happened after the Chakmas married local women after a battle in Saprekul. The
language of this mixed community is Chakma, but Chakma do not accept them as
part of their community. The Tanchangyas have their own dress and ornaments. A
Tanchangya woman can easily be distinguished from other tribal community women
for her dress code. She wears an embroidered turban and full-sleeve garment for
the upper body.
