Khumi |
With little over 3000
population, the Khumis are one of the tiniest ethnic indigenous tribes living
in hill districts of Chittagong.
Like other ethnic tribes of Bangladesh
they are of Mongoloid origin and have their own language. Bu they do not have a
written script. They have strong social ties and live in a band under the
leadership of a headman they select themselves. They are very enthusiastic to
take part in social functions. The handicrafts they make are the evidence of
their exquisite artisanship. They use bamboos, canes and wood to produce different
types of pots and baskets.
