Manipuri

The Manipuris live in the plains of the districts of Maulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet and Sunamganj. They are devout followers of the Lord Vishnu. Two separate languages, Bishnupriya and Meithei, are spoken by the Manipuris. They are famous for their exquisite sense of beauty and good taste. Their costumes and ornaments demonstrate their love for bright colors. They weave themselves their colorful costume on bamboo looms. To enhance their beauty both young and older women are very keen to wear gold ornaments in addition to hairdo with braids, clips, flowers on buns, using nail polish, nose-rings, earrings, anklets and tiaras. Rice, lentil, fish and vegetable are their main food. Intoxicating drinks and meats are forbidden to them.
